A dynamic ballet technique class focusing on minimal effort and maximum results.  

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

Nicole Thomas received her formal ballet training from Balanchine ballerina Lind Yorth.  She has studied ballet for 23 years under instructors from Paris Opera Ballet, Houston Ballet, and Ballet Magnificat.  She has extensive training and professional experience in ballet, modern, jazz, and musical theater.  Nicole is owner of Dunamix Dance Project and Artistic Director of Duolos Dance Company.

Contemporary Brazilian challenges dancers to push beyond traditional techniques. This class is a joyous celebration that incorporates grounded and uninhibited Afro-Brazilian influenced expression, the posture and playfulness of Samba, together with fluid and voluminous contemporary floor movement. You’ll thank you and your body will thank you …once you catch your breath.

Julie Simon, co-owner of Infuse Dance Studio, Director of Tropicaleiza Dance Company and Founder and Artistic Director of Muvuca Bateria has been a professional dancer for 25 years performing in styles ranging from Brazilian, Caribbean and Latin Dances, to African and Afro-Contemporary Dance Styles. Theater Dance Studio

Move from a place of play and curiosity with Zaquia Mahler Salinas in this contemporary technique class. Go beyond the mechanics and move into personal expression as we explore individuality within phrase-work. Drop In and Spiral Out is a mindful all levels class that gives dancers an opportunity to investigate dance technique while deepening sensory awareness that translates into individual and communal performance tools. Come practice presence of self in movement through choreographic exploration, structured improvisation, observation, and inter-personal connection.

Zaquia Mahler Salinas, a native San Diegan, is a performer, dance maker, and teacher. After receiving her BA in Dance with Honors from UC Santa Barbara in 2011, she returned to San Diego and has been a company member with Jean Isaacs’ San Diego Dance Theater since 2012. In 2017 she obtained her MFA in Dance: Creative Practice form Saint Mary’s College of California where she focused on artistic development and dance as a platform for social justice. As a choreographer, Zaquia has presented dance works throughout California, and more recently in Texas, Peru and Mexico.

This workshop is an introduction to the Spanish Baroque Dance Court from the XVII Century. Dance at the time of the famous Spanish painter, Velázquez. Participants will enjoy practicing the steps and a dance from the Juan Antonio Jaque’s Manuscript dated around the 2º half of XVII Century. We will have fun dancing and learning about history, social codes, dance history and even, understanding the origins of the actual Ballet technique. We will take a look to the Juan Antonio Jaque’s Manuscript and other ones related to understand the historical dance reconstruction and their dance steps. 

Level: All Levels, ages 14 and up 

Maria Tomillo is a professional dance teacher and choreographer. She has a degree on Spanish Dance and a Master’s degree (Magna Cum Laude) in Dance and Music of the XV and XVI-Centuries at the University of Valladolid (Spain). Professionally, Maria has danced with a variety of Renaissance Dance companies and tough different Historical Dance workshops. Maria is also a Spanish Dance and Inclusive Dance teacher and choreographer. In Spain, she created the DyD (Dance and Diversity) program with her on Dance Company ( CLICK HERE for more information.
